In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the holy spirit

Amen

Hymn O For a thousand songs

O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,

My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace. (x4)

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease;

That bids our sorrows cease;
’Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
’Tis life, and health, and peace.(x4)

See all your sins on Jesus laid,

The lamb of God was slain

The lamb of God was slain

His soul was once an offering made

For every soul of man (x4)

He breaks the power of canceled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood availed for me. (x4)

Hear him ye deaf His praise ye dumb

Your loosened tongues employ

Your loosened tongues employ

Ye blind behold your saviour come

And leap ye lame for joy (x4)

My master and my God

Assist me to proclaim

Assist me to proclaim

To spread through all the earth abroad

The honours of thy name (x4)

words of welcome

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

And from whom no secrets are hidden:

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

That we may perfectly love you

and worthily magnify your holy name;

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayers of Penitence

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:

The first Commandment is this;

"Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord

you shall love the Lord your God

with all your heart, with all your soul,

with all your mind, and with all your strength."

The second is this,

"love your neighbour as yourself."

There is no other commandment greater than these.

on these two commandments hang all the law

and the prophets.

Amen, Lord have mercy

invitation to confession

Jesus is our high priest, tempted like us, yet without sin.

He lives for ever in heaven to intercede for us.

Through him we approach the throne of grace

with confidence,

and confess our sins.

Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed.

We have not loved you with our whole heart.

We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves,

in your mercy forgive what we have been,

help us to amend what we are and direct what we shall be;

that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you

our God.  Amen.

Almighty God

who forgives all who truly repent,

have mercy upon you,

pardon and deliver you from all your sins,

confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,

and keep you in life eternal;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.                 Amen

As God’s forgiven people we are now going to say the Gloria

Glory to God in the highest,

and peace to his people

on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,

almighty God and Father,

we worship you,

we give you thanks,

we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ,

only son of the Father,

Lord God, lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the

world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right

hand of the Father:

receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

The Collect

Risen, ascended Lord,

as we rejoice at your triumph,

fill your Church on earth with power and compassion,

that all who are estranged by sin

may find forgiveness and know your peace,

to the glory of God the Father.

Amen

Readings

first reading

Ezekiel 36:24-28

24 “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Second reading

Acts 1:6-14

Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” 12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk[a] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.   14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Gospel Reading

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John

Glory to you, O Lord

John 17:1-11

17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with youbefore the world began.

“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me,for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

This is the Gospel of the Lord

Praise to you, O Christ

Sermon

The Creed

The Apostles’ Creed

We are now going to declare what we believe by saying the Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

The Prayers

intercessions

using the response

Holy God:

The Liturgy of the Sacrament

The Peace

The risen Lord now reigns at

God’s right hand.

He is the Prince of Peace.

The peace of the Lord be always with you

and also with you.

(let us offer one another a sign of peace)

Hymn Beautiful Saviour

All my days I will sing this song of gladness,
Give my praise to the Fountain of delights;
For in my helplessness You heard my cry,
And waves of mercy poured down on my life.

I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer,
I will sing of the blood that never fails;
Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed,
Of death defeated and life without end.

Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor,
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history,
You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life.
Star of the Morning, glorious in holiness,
You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion
And You reign, You reign over all.

I long to be where the praise is never-ending,
Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades;
Where countless worshippers will share one song,
And cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb!

Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor,
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history,
You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life.
Star of the Morning, glorious in holiness,
You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion
And You reign, You reign over all

Preparation of the table

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:

through your goodness we have this bread to offer,

which earth has given and human hands have made.

It will become for us the bread of life

Blessed be God forever.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:

through your goodness we have this wine to offer,

fruit of the vine and work of human hands.

It will become for us the cup of salvation.

Blessed be God forever.

The Lord be with you

and also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

Father, we give you thanks and praise

through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word,

through whom you have created all things;

who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour.

By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh;

as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin,

he lived on earth and went about among us;

he opened wide his arms for us on the cross;

he put an end to death by dying for us;

and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life;

so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people.

Therefore with angels and archangels,

and with all the company of heaven,

we proclaim your great and glorious name,

for ever praising you and saying:

      Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

[Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.]

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness;

grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,

and according to your holy will,

these gifts of bread and wine

may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed,

took bread and gave you thanks;

he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;

do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper

he took the cup and gave you thanks;

he gave it to them, saying:

Drink this, all of you;

this is my blood of the new covenant,

which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of me.

[Great is the mystery of faith:]

Christ has died:

Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross,

his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world;

rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension,

and looking for his coming in glory,

we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving,

we bring before you this bread and this cup

and we thank you for counting us worthy

to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people

and gather into one in your kingdom

all who share this one bread and one cup,

so that we, in the company of all the saints,

may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

As our Saviour taught us so we pray

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours

now and forever.

Amen.

Breaking Bread

Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup

We proclaim the Lords death until he comes.

Jesus Lamb of God; have mercy on us.

Jesus bearer of our sins; have mercy on us.

Jesus, redeemer of the world; give us your peace.

If you are making a spiritual communion (i.e. not receiving in person) you may wish to say the below:

In union, O Lord with the faithful at every altar of your Church, where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated,
I desire to offer you praise and thanksgiving.
I present to you my soul and body with the wish

that they may always be united to you.
And since I can not now receive you in this sacrament,
I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.
I unite myself to you, and embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Let nothing ever separate you from me.
May I live and die in your love.
Amen.

Prayer after Communion

Eternal God, giver of love and power,

your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world

to preach the gospel of his kingdom:

confirm us in this mission,

and help us to live the good news we proclaim;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Almighty God,

we thank you for feeding us

with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

Through him we offer you our souls and bodies

to be a living sacrifice.

Send us out

in the power of your Spirit

to live and work

to your praise and glory.   Amen.

The Blessing

Christ our ascended King

pour upon you the abundance of his gifts

and bring you to reign with him in glory;

and the blessing …

of God Almighty, the Father,

the Son and Holy Spirit

Amen.
