Hymn All Hail the Power of Jesus Name

All hail the pow'r of Jesus' Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Bring forth the royal diadem

And crown Him Lord of all!

O seed of Israel's chosen race,
Now ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Let every tongue and every tribe

Responsive to His call

To Him all Majesty ascribe

And crown him Lord of all

To Him all Majesty ascribe

And crown him Lord of all

Oh that will all the sacred throng

We at His feet may fall

We’ll join the everlasting song

And crown him Lord of all

We’ll join the everlasting song

And crown him Lord of all

Notices

The Lord be with you

and also with you

words of welcome

To all who are weary with carrying heavy burdens in life,

Jesus offers rest for our souls and unthreatening relief.

We say together the prayer of preparation

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

And from whom no secrets are hidden:

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

That we may perfectly love you

and worthily magnify your holy name;

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayers of Penitence

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:

The first Commandment is this;

"Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord

you shall love the Lord your God

with all your heart, with all your soul,

with all your mind, and with all your strength."

The second is this,

"love your neighbour as yourself."

There is no other commandment greater than these.

on these two commandments hang all the law

and the prophets.

Amen, Lord have mercy

invitation to confession

We come to God as one from whom no secrets are hidden,

To ask for his forgiveness and peace.

Father eternal,

Giver of light and grace,

We have sinned against you

        and against our neighbour,

In what we have thought,

and what we have said and done,

through ignorance,

through weakness,

through our own deliberate fault.

We have wounded your love,

and marred your image in us.

We are sorry and ashamed,

and repent of all our sins.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us,

Forgive us all that is past,

And lead us out from darkness;

To walk as children of light.

Amen.

May the Father of all mercies

cleanse you from your sins,

and restore you in his image

to the praise and glory of his name,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

As God’s forgiven people we are now going to say the Gloria.

Glory to God in the highest,

and peace to his people

on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,

almighty God and Father,

we worship you,

we give you thanks,

we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ,

only son of the Father,

Lord God, lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the

world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right

hand of the Father:

receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

The Collect

O God, the protector of all who trust in you,

without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:

increase and multiply upon us your mercy;

that with you as our ruler and guide

we may so pass through things temporal

that we lose not our hold on things eternal;

grant this, heavenly Father,

for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever.

Amen

Readings

first reading

our first reading is from Zechariah 9:9-12

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
    Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
    righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
    and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
    and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
    His rule will extend from sea to sea
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.

11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
    I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;
    even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Psalm with refrain

Our Psalm this morning is 145:8-15

Refrain: Great is the Lord and Highly to be

Praised.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
    slow to anger and rich in love.The Lord is good to all;
    he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,

12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
    and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
    and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
    and lifts up all who are bowed down.

15 The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food at the proper time.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever. Amen

Refrain: Great is the Lord and Highly to be

Praised

Second reading

Our second reading is from Romans 7:15-25

15 I do not understand what I do. For what I

want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Gospel Reading

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew

Glory to you, O Lord

16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
    and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
    and you did not mourn.’

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” 25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Praise to you, O Christ

Sermon

The Creed

The Nicene Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was

buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,        the Holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

The Prayers

Intercessions

Using the response

Ending with

Merciful Father,

accept these prayers

Our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Sacrament

The Peace

We are the Body of Christ,

In the one Spirit we were all baptised into one body

Let us then pursue all that makes for peace and builds up our common life.

John 20.19, 20

The peace of the Lord be always with you

and also with you.

(let us offer one another a sign of peace)

Hymn Jesus lover of my Soul (I think these are the right lyrics)

Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, oh my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life is past,
Safe into the haven guide
Oh receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on thee'
Leave, ah! Leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed,
All my help from thee I bring,
Cover my defenceless head
With the shadow of thy wing.

Thou, oh Christ art all I want;
More than all in thee I find;
Raise thou fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name;
I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am,
Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with thee is found
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within:
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of thee;
Spring thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.

Preparation of the table

As we consider all the gifts that God has given

to us and the gifts we give to God.

Yours Lord is the greatness, the power,

the glory, the splendour and the majesty;

for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.

All things come from you,

And of your own do we give you.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:

through your goodness we have this bread to offer,

which earth has given and human hands have made.

It will become for us the bread of life

Blessed be God forever.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:

through your goodness we have this wine to offer,

fruit of the vine and work of human hands.

It will become for us the cup of salvation.

Blessed be God forever.

Wise and gracious God,

You spread a table before us;

Nourish your people with the word of life

And the bread of heaven

Amen.

The Lord be with you

and also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

Father, we give you thanks and praise

through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word,

through whom you have created all things;

who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour.

By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh;

as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin,

he lived on earth and went about among us;

he opened wide his arms for us on the cross;

he put an end to death by dying for us;

and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life;

so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people.

Therefore with angels and archangels,

and with all the company of heaven,

we proclaim your great and glorious name,

for ever praising you and saying:

      Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

[Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.]

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness;

grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,

and according to your holy will,

these gifts of bread and wine

may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed,

took bread and gave you thanks;

he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;

do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper

he took the cup and gave you thanks;

he gave it to them, saying:

Drink this, all of you;

this is my blood of the new covenant,

which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of me.

[Great is the mystery of faith:]

Christ has died:

Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross,

his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world;

rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension,

and looking for his coming in glory,

we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving,

we bring before you this bread and this cup

and we thank you for counting us worthy

to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people

and gather into one in your kingdom

all who share this one bread and one cup,

so that we, in the company of all the saints,

may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

As our Saviour taught us so we pray

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours

now and forever.

Amen.

Breaking Bread

Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup

We proclaim the Lords death until he comes.

Jesus Lamb of God; have mercy on us.

Jesus bearer of our sins; have mercy on us.

Jesus, redeemer of the world; give us your peace.

If you are making a spiritual communion (i.e. not receiving in person) you may wish to say the below:

In union, O Lord with the faithful at every altar of your Church, where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated,
I desire to offer you praise and thanksgiving.
I present to you my soul and body with the wish

that they may always be united to you.
And since I can not now receive you in this sacrament,
I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.
I unite myself to you, and embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Let nothing ever separate you from me.
May I live and die in your love.
Amen.

Prayer after Communion

Eternal God,

comfort of the afflicted and healer of the broken,

you have fed us at the table of life and hope:

teach us the ways of gentleness and peace,

that all the world may acknowledge

the kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Almighty God,

we thank you for feeding us

with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

Through him we offer you our souls and bodies

to be a living sacrifice.

Send us out

in the power of your Spirit

to live and work

to your praise and glory.   Amen.

The Blessing

The Lord Be with You

And also with you

May God give to you and to all those you love

his comfort and his peace,

his light and his joy,

in this world and the next;

and the blessing of God almighty,

the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

be among you, and remain with you always.

Amen.

Hymn Love Divine all loves excelling

Love Divine, all loves excelling
Joy of heaven to earth come down
Fix in us thy humble dwelling
All thy faithful mercies crown

Jesus, thou art all compassion
Pure unbounded love thou art
Visit us with thy salvation
Enter every trembling heart.

Come, Almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy hosts above,
Pray and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

Breathe O breathe Thy loving Spirit

into every troubled breast

let us all in Thee inherit

Let us find the promised rest

Take away the love of sinning

Alpha and Omega be

End of faith as its beginning

Set our hearts at liberty

Finish, then, thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory,
Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Go in peace to love and Serve the Lord

In the Name of Christ Amen
